Events And Rating System Description

Current Events Offered And Leader Board >>

An event is a competition with prizes. Our event and rating system was designed with these things in mind:
  1. Players should be able to play as many tourneys as they like, when they like.
  2. Tournaments should count, meaning you care if you lose or win, yet you shouldn't have to wait until the next day to have your score/chips reset.

Most events require you to play a minimum amount of tourneys to qualify, then your best "run" counts.

Points

We record each tourney you play and how well you do. The higher you place, the more points you get for that tourney. The points available for a tourney comes from how many players entered.

Example: Placing 2nd out of a 10 person tourney means you get a point score of 9/10. There were 10 players who entered, meaning 10 points available, and placing 2nd earned you 9/10. To place first you would get 10/10 points. To place 3rd, you get 8/10.

This works because as a general rule the more players in a tourney, the harder it is to win, therefore more it should be weighted. With that said though, our events are going to try to keep the size of the tournament specific to the event. What that means is we would ideally like a heads up event to only count heads up tourneys. This is so that a person who wins a large tourney, say 100 entrants, doesn't automatically win all events since his score would be a perfect 100/100, a score very hard to get if you only played 10 person SitnGoes.

Qualifying

Qualifying for an event means you've played enough tourneys to get a chance at the prize(s). For example, if it says you need 200 points to qualify, you would need to play 20 10-player tourneys or 40 5-player tourneys. Different events have different qualifying amounts.

Rating

We rate your best run.

Best point run is a way of describing your highest score for a certain point range. Say you played 10 10-player tourneys with the following results (PointsEarned/PointsAvailable):

1/10 10/10 3/10 9/10 7/10 1/10 1/10 4/10 7/10 4/10

Then say we are looking at your best 50 point run.

Your best 50 point run would be: 1/10 10/10 3/10 9/10 7/10

The rating system ranks players based on their best run. The is important because it means each tourney you play counts, yet if you don't do well, you aren't stuck. Your score can essentially reset and improve each new tourney. This encourages meaningful realistic play, yet you aren't required to wait a period before anything resets. Likewise, there is nothing to prevent you from continuing to play to try and improve your already good, or bad score.

Questions

Can I play as many tourneys as I like?

Yes, you can and should play as many as possible. Even if you have a good score, there is no harm in continuing to play to try and improve it. Likewise, there are different events for different best score runs, so you'll want to try and get the best rank for each.

What if two players tie for a score when the prizes are awarded?

In the event of a tie the players split the prize. Example: 1st gets $100, 2nd gets $50. If 2 players tie for 1st then they'll both get $75.

Additional Notes

As the site grows, our event system will improve. This is just a start. Community and communication with our players is one of the goals of this site. If you have any ideas or comments, please post them in the forum.

Here are a couple ways in which we might expand:

  • multi-table tourneys with their own event types that don't compete with the smaller tourneys.
  • new events that are based on ratings of players, meaning if you beat a table full of pros (players with high ranks) you'll get more points than if beat players with lower ranks. (This will be added to the events, not replace them.)
  • more of the same events, but daily, bi-monthly, weekly prizes
  • of course more money
  • best cumulative average over a period
  • loyalty award for who's played the most this month
  • etc

Again, if you are thinking "it would be cool if..." then please let us know. There will be plenty of ideas we haven't even considered yet that the players will come up with.
